ABOUT

St. Sebastian’s received a generous lead gift from an anonymous donor to revitalize the Henry T. Lane Rink, launching this campaign to breathe new life into a facility so central to the heart of our School.

The Henry T. Lane Rink Improvement Project will ensure the Arrows Hockey program thrives well into the future while also celebrating St. Sebastian’s rich hockey heritage. The renovation of the rink, designed by Robert Olson & Associates, will greatly enhance the facility for our student-athletes, improve skater safety, and elevate the experience for fans and spectators.

Seb’s hockey is about family. The connection felt between players, players and coaches, and players and their fellow students in the stands, is amazing. And along with that, the bond felt between generations of players is real, as evidenced by the number of alumni who make it back to watch the team in action.

Improvements to the rink include:

  • New state-of-the-art boards and glass shielding system with flexible glass to improve player safety

  • New permanent bleachers and viewing platforms to improve the experience for spectators and fans. The first row of the bleachers will be level with the height of the boards, ensuring our fans won’t miss any action on the ice

  • New main level warming room decorated with muraled walls highlighting Arrows hockey history, player and team achievements.

  • Frame-less glass installed in existing second level overlook viewing area, spanning the length between the blue lines giving St. Sebastian’s spectators a much-improved view of the game

  • New pipes and concrete rink floor, replacing the current sand floor. The surface will allow flexibility as a multi-functional space during the off-season

  • West wall improvements featuring the St. Sebastian’s logo, a new scoreboard and banner display

  • East wall improvements featuring a new scoreboard, banner display and prominent display of the American flag

  • Install infrastructure for livestreaming and recording of games

  • New skate-proof interlocking floor tile throughout the rink

Our alumni, parents and friends are behind every Arrows win on the ice, and they want to see that we take pride in our program and our players. Improving our facilities will reflect our commitment to our community and the sport.

Status of the Current Rink

The Henry T. Lane Rink - named in honor of Henry Lane ’49, P’77, long-time teacher, hockey coach and Athletic Director - has been home to St. Sebastian’s hockey since the School moved to Greendale Avenue over the 1982-83 Christmas break. During a heavy snowstorm in 1996, the roof of the rink collapsed under the weight of the snow, and the rink as it stands today was rebuilt in 1997.

In the 24 years since the rink was rebuilt, some improvements have been made; however, we now find ourselves with an outdated facility compared with the rest of the campus. As one of the School’s most recognized athletic programs, upgrades to the rink are necessary if we are to continue to attract top students and athletes and remain competitive among our peer schools.
